2014 European elections: 34,09% – success or failure?

While the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament was held on 27 May to discuss the results of the recent European Parliament elections and to sketch the future institutional leaders of the EU, AEGEE-Europe releases its first analysis on the outcomes of the 2014 European elections.

YVote 2014 Convention in Wien

AEGEE-Vienna hosted the sixth Y Vote 2014 Convention which took place between 14-18 March. Having the main theme – EU in the World – the 32 participants discussed past, present and future of the EU, they also met several MEPs, participated in the workshops, drafted recommendations reflecting what is the youth vision on the future EU which will be handed to the European Parliament. European elections 2014: Civil society and candidate MEPs commit to a Citizens’ Europe

An event on 18 March at the European Parliament hosted by Claude Moraes (MEP, S&D, UK) gathered a number of civil society organisations committed to promote youth participation, especially in the context of the European elections. Y Vote Convention on Gender Equality in Paris

Between 19-23 February AEGEE-Paris hosted fourth Y Vote Convention. This time nearly 40 active and curious young Europeans discussed an issue that is of a high importance on the European agenda – Gender Equality. How did the event go? AEGEE demands more equality in the procedures of EP elections

European citizen – a mobile person who is able to travel, study and work  abroad – within the EU or beyond its borders. However, these benefits constrain citizens’ involvement in democratic processes of the EU, namely, many are deprived of the right to participate in, or have a limited access to, the EP elections if they are outside of their country on the election day. This issue has been addressed by the Y Vote 2014 in the following article.

Y Vote Convention “The future of the eurozone: more austerity or solidarity?” (in German)

Between 28 January and 3 February AEGEE-Berlin hosted a Y Vote Convention gathering more than 20 participants from different European countries. European Movement in Germany (Europäische Bewegung Deutschland) wrote an article about the event.

Common parliament, different rules 

An opinion article on EurActiv addressing an issue of differences that exist within the EU regarding national rules that regulate participation in European elections in each Member State, namely, the question is about minimum age to be eligible to vote and to stand as a candidate. The Y Vote 2014 Project Team is concerned about those disparities and is calling upon European and national institutions to align those rules across the Member States.

AEGEE Europe/The European Students’ Forum demands a change in the European direction

An article published on The EU Bubble website about the launch of the Y Vote 2014, its objectives and activities – past, present and future. In this article the president of AEGEE-Europe explains the importance of youth participation and intergenerational dialogue in the context of the EP elections.

NGO “Citizens of Europe” promotes Y Vote Convention “Solidarity vs. Austerity” taking place between 28 January and 2 February in Berlin. Implications of the financial crisis are expected to be a trigger for various discussions at this event. Original article can be found here.

The AEGEEan looks back at the Y Vote 2014 kick-off convention in Valladolid

With the next youth convention in Las Palmas already well on the way, the AEGEEan looks back at last month’s convention “Ignite the Youth Spark”. AEGEE-Europe reacts to the Duff Report

Following the publication of the Duff Report, AEGEE-Europe issued a press release in which it welcomes the the reports endorsements.
